Fifteen years of creative and passionate ties in order to offer the quintessence of glamour. Since 1998, Chopard and the Cannes International Film Festival have been performing a dazzling pas de deux on the red carpet.
To mark this eminently glamorous occasion, the Geneva based watchmaker-jeweller has created a Red Carpet Collection brimming with loving anecdotes. A precious collection embodying creations in which diamonds in heart cut, floral and sparkling coloured stones are firmly in the spotlight.
Dreamt up by Caroline Scheufele, Co-President and Artistic Director of the House of Chopard, and inspired by the actresses who grace the world’s most prestigious red carpets, this year’s collection is also a tribute to great love stories – those seen on the silver screen as well as all the countless others. Caroline Scheufele chose to focus on this theme in designing some of her new creations: “love is universal. It illuminates women’s beauty, like a beautiful piece of jewellery. I very much wanted to pay tribute to the finest sentiments. The Red Carpet collection is thus adorned in shimmering colours, red accents… like the fire of passion and heart-shaped precious stones, one of my favourite cuts.”

Since the 60th anniversary of the Cannes International Film Festival, Caroline Scheufele and her team of talented designers have been yearly creating an Haute Joaillerie collection directly inspired by actresses and intended to embellish them during the legendary “mounting of the steps” ritual. Each spring, Chopard offers a number of jewellery creations to match the number of Festival editions to date. So this year, 66 new creations patiently crafted in the Chopard workshops will be unveiled on the occasion of this 66th annual event.
Among them is a delicate token of love in full bloom: a poppy-ring with petals so delicate that one can almost imagine them quivering at the slightest movement. To craft this meticulous work of art in yellow and white gold, jewellers and gem-setters combined diamonds with over 700 rubies, 640 tsavorites and 168 emeralds. An ode to romance, a fascinating Paraiba tourmaline – an eminently rare gem – beckons one to plunge into its shimmering turquoise ‘waters’. This heart-cut stone is mounted on a slender white gold ring set with over 1,000 diamonds. An equally dazzling diamond choker, symbolising the quintessence of passion, is adorned with emeralds and teamed with matching pendant earrings. Pastel shades also join the ensemble, as if to evoke the gentle moments in a loving relationship, the memory of tender vows. A kunzite here, a mauve spinel there – both pear-cut and mounted on rings set with diamonds forming gracefully interweaving ribbon motifs.
Diamond plays the starring role
Epitomising a perfect alliance of beauty, purity and mystery, as well as a symbol of ultimate luxury and eternal love, the diamond is also, as Caroline Scheufele loves to say, “the king of the red carpets”. Whether in the foreground or the background, it plays its role to perfection, treating creations to that little touch of elegance and magnificence that makes all the difference. An additional piece in this new collection is a majestic white gold necklace set with a 5-carat pear-cut diamond and 284 rose-cut diamond totalling almost 183 carats.
An acknowledged master of the art of creating jewellery watches, Chopard also offers a spectacular example of its expertise in this domain. This deliciously floral-accented white gold timepiece, entirely set with navette-cut and brilliant-cut diamonds, is fitted with a dainty satin strap. With this supremely refined horological gem, the days and hours are ticking by with exquisite elegance until the opening evening of the 66th International Film Festival in Cannes.
