32-year-old Konstantinos Koukas, a lawyer, is one of the youngest mayors elected last Sunday. He will be ruling for the next 5 years the most famous Greek cycladic island of Mykonos.
Koukas won over his opponent, Andreas Fiorentinos, with a lead of 221 votes in the second round of the 2014 municipal elections.
The residents of Mykonos greeted the new mayor with fireworks and cheers. In his post-election speech, Koukas promised to work hard for his island and to promote its development.
Who is Konstantinos Koukas?
Koukas, 32, has studied Law at the Thrace Law School and holds two undergraduate degrees: one in law and one in civilization and philosophy of Black Sea countries. He also holds a post-graduate degree in European and International Studies.
At the age of 28, Konstantinos Koukas became the first governor’s adviser in the South Aegean region and is currently the vice president of the South Aegean regional council. He was an intern at the European Parliament and also served as an adviser in two Greek ministries. At the same time he has been working as a lawyer in Mykonos for the past seven years.
