Queen of couture! Celia Kritharioti hosts a truly sparkling soirée at Mark’s Club for London’s leading It-girls and elegant aristo-darlings. The Greek designer called upon the capital’s most beguiling faces for a rip-roaring bash to launch her Harrods debut
Celia Kritharioti, the modern-day Greek goddess of haute couture, has made a name for herself as the patron saint of party-girl-sparkle in the ever-glamorous world of high society. At at Tatler x Sotheby’s bash last year, she even made a custom gown in the likeness Queen Elizabeth II, as pictured by Nigerian artist Oluwole Omofemi on the cover of the July 2022 issue. Naturally, Sabine Getty, wife of oil heir Jospeh Getty and all-around-avante-glam fashion queen, just had to wear it at the event.
Now, she’s spreading her dazzling designer prowess to even more glamazons of the British gentry with a new debut and window takeover of everyone’s favourite Brompton Road department store; Harrods. The fashion crowd were sure to take note too, as she managed to tap the supermodel’s supermodel, Kate Moss, to front her coinciding campaign. From her Athens atelier to Paris Couture Week to Great Britain, Kritharioti’s picking up society darlings left, right and centre – just ask the Marchionness of Bath, who regularly opts for the designer’s drop-dead gorgeous regalia when attending an event.
But how could she top this stratospheric rise to pailette-emblazoned power? Having taken the helm of Athens’ oldest couture house and brought its rich heritage to 21st century, it’s a seismic journey that’s seen the designer dress everyone from rousing red carpet icons to real-life royals (see Queen Anne-Marie of Greece and Tatiana Blatnik, wife of Prince Nikolaos of Greece and Denmark). Well, to celebrate said London takeover, Kritharioti invited a coterie of her most treasured aristocratic aesthetes and discerning style mavens down to Mark’s Club for a cocktail party, of course.
In attendance were the leading Ladys of style (Camilla de la Poer Beresford in icy silk, Martha Sitwell in a powder blue cape, Mary Charteris spinning the decks in a naval-gazing black number); the rock’n’roll heiresses (jewellery aficionados Jade Jagger, and gothic grande dame Daphne Guinness); and the It-girls (Tatler’s Best Dressed alum Sophie Hermann serving Material Girl in a pink bow-backed gown and opera gloves, and Hans Zimmer’s artist daughter, Zoe Zimmer, oozing dark debutante in a monochrome mini).
Champagne sure did flow in the quintessentially heady buzz of Mark’s Club, the Mayfair spot that rocks until the small hours – even on a school night. Kritharioti herself was never far from the DJ booth, dancing and catching up with her legions of glitz-adoring supporters. Even in the powder room, guests were discussing their love for the couturier. ‘She’s doing so well!’ said one, ‘I’m just so happy for her,’ another replied.
There’s no denying, Kritharioti is killing it – and she sure knows how to throw a party.
