Alexis Tsipras and Barack Obama had a three-minute chat during a dinner the US President gave in New York city Monday to the world leaders attending the UN General Assembly.
Obama introduced Tsipras to his wife Michelle as the man who has won successive elections.
Obama told the Greek prime minister his country will back Greece’s efforts to make its debt sustainable and return to growth. The two also briefly touched upon the refugee and Cyprus issues.
Obama also told Tsipras about how several of his vriends often holiday in Greece.
During the dinner, Tsipras also met with his counterpart Nikola Gruevski, of the Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia (FYROM) and asked him to compromise on the issue of the official name for his country.
