In Mykonos -and all Greece – we are celebrating Orthodox Easter. So the island is full of greeks with a summery mood, fed up with all the miserable crisis aura who want to just have fun. It is an easy come – easy go period where restaurateurs, shops etc will make some quick money to kick start the season. Prices are still high. In some places they are extremely high! For example its better to order a bottle of wine that costs 30 euros than a glass of wine that costs 10 euros. Something magical has happened to all those posh places and their credit card systems have all broken down for the season! A friend of mine staying with me , working in a bank , told me that Banks are obliged to fix the problem asap so customers can be served. Then they say the telephone lines have gone down – and since this is not third world- lines are fixed very quickly plus their lines work because you can call them to reserve tables!
(Insiders say that those owners owe money to the banks and have no intention at all to “lose” their money by cutting receipts and instead fool you with order receipts – so beware)
Anyway, people who suffer in this country and pay more taxes are the people who always paid their taxes, and most of us did and do! When you see villagers buying boats after five years owing tavernas then you know something is wrong.
This is why through Cosmopoliti I will try to guide you toward the honest and the best!
One of them is the adorable fishermans’ taverna in Lia. Its owned by a warm , the Galounis, a hard working Mykonian family and has the best fish on the island. They are famous for their lobster swimming pools and they have a special section for the kids to play. This year they are in a very good mood and you can see this from the freshly painted multi colored chairs and tables.’ We had delicious “skorpina” soup , fresh horta and dolmadakia.
A must place to go, with reasonable prices and accepting all credit cards!
